Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksTextured describes buddy icons with tactile or patterned surfaces, such as spots, stripes, repeated abstract blocks, or visual grain inside fill areas. These patterns are often strong identifiers in both static and animated buddy icons, remaining readable even when the icon is reduced to tiny dimensions.
