Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksText Overlay Changes describes buddy icons where the image remains largely stable while overlaid words or labels change across frames or repeated variants. Noticeable shifts in captions, short phrases, and callouts are the cue, even when clothing and face position stay the same.
