Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksText Banner labels buddy icons with a dedicated bar, ribbon, or strip reserved for words, separate from the main graphic. The message usually occupies a distinct zone at top or bottom and works with faces or figures to make the content readable in small displays.
