Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksSymbols are buddy icons built from emblem-like marks, hearts, stars, and short text characters rather than realistic scenes. Repeated glyphs and moving accents let tiny images communicate meaning through compact symbol clusters.
