Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksRetro Digital Art uses compact pixel-era rendering in buddy icons, where limited resolution and blocky transitions define shapes, characters, and text. You can spot it in small canvases by visible square edges, simple shading blocks, and compact scenes that stay legible at 48–50 px.
