Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksRed Hearts marks buddy icons featuring red heart symbols as explicit design marks, often placed with short captions and emotive lines. A heart may be outlined or filled, repeated as punctuation, or set beside the subject to sharpen the tiny composition.
