Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksRed Background refers to buddy icons with a clearly dominant red field behind the subject or object. Even when the figure is small, the red canvas lifts contrast for text, clothing, and symbols, especially with yellow, black, or white accents.
