Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksPlus Signs are buddy icons where a plus-shaped mark, including a cross-like +, appears as a meaningful icon element. Repetition of that sign, often next to short text, hearts, or captions, is the primary cue that marks these apart from unrelated graphic details.
