Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksPerson With Curly Hair identifies buddy icons where the subject has visibly curly hair as the key descriptor, independent of pose or filter. Hair texture and ringlet patterns remain the defining feature, even when captions and expressions change.
