Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksPerson With Brown Hair describes buddy icons featuring a human or humanoid subject where brown hair is a clear visual trait in the portrait or pose set. The tag can apply to stills, repeated pose strips, or text-adorned avatars as long as the hair tone helps identify the subject.
