Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksPenguins denotes icons featuring penguin birds, usually stylized in small black-and-white silhouettes with orange accents on the face and feet. In these buddy icons, a standing posture and short beak with yellow feet are the clearest markers, even when set on simple color or ice-themed backdrops.
