Read the short historyRecovered from the early web
Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksHeart Symbol Appears applies to buddy icons where a heart icon explicitly enters the visual field as a marked graphic detail. The heart may float, sit above a subject, or sit between words, often acting as the emotional hinge of the image.
