Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksGray Jacket identifies buddy icons where the person is wearing a gray outer garment, commonly on top of a contrasting shirt. Across frames, the gesture and expression may vary while that muted outer layer keeps the character cue stable.
