Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksFrowning captures buddy icons where facial expression shifts to a downturn, pout, or downturned mouth. The cue is often in a single-character icon and can be reinforced through slight pose changes and close-set eyes.
