Read the short historyRecovered from the early web
Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksFlagpole includes buddy icons with a mast-and-banner setup or a character actively holding a flag as the main subject. Strong clues are cloth striping, emblems, and supporting text beneath the lifted banner, where the fabric shape usually identifies the theme first.
