Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksEyes Closed identifies buddy icons where the subject keeps their eyes shut, with emotion moved into brows, cheeks, or mouth. In many examples, tiny animation-style frames swap states, making eyelid position and small blush shifts the first feature to read.
