Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksCheckered Pattern identifies buddy icons using alternating square color cells, creating a grid-like field that may cover background or surfaces. The alternating sequence itself is the signature, even when overlaid with text or figures.
