Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksBlocky Rendering means the subject is composed from coarse square pixels, giving edges a stepped look rather than smooth curves or gradients. In buddy icons it appears as chunky faces, animals, weapons, and clothing shapes where each area is formed from obvious square facets.
