Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksBased identifies buddy icons dominated by text fields and repeated decorative symbols, usually names, declarations, hearts, and asterisks in bright blocky layouts. Lettering density and symbol repetition are the strongest cues, while portrait styling appears secondary when present.
