Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksAnimated identifies icons that intentionally cycle through multiple frames with visible changes, instead of staying as one still image. The collection includes shifting text replacements, falling particles, moving mechanisms, and snowfall transitions, where movement itself marks the icon style.
