Buddy icons survive in old directories, fan sites, downloadable packs, and web archives. The archive preserves the original files, groups known copies, and records where each one was found.
How the archive worksAnimated Text describes buddy icons where the lettering itself changes as the main dynamic element, while subjects may remain mostly still. Color shifts, flickering outlines, or frame-by-frame letter movement are common, especially in bold caption-driven icons.
